Devotion to Saint Rita: from Nice to Fontenay-aux-Roses<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

It all began in Nice in 1844 at the Church of the Annunciation. This church was entrusted to the pastoral care of the Congregation of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary (O.M.V.) by Mgr Galvano, Bishop of Nice. The congregation was then invited to Fontenay-aux-Roses in the \u00cele-de-France region in 1959, by the Archbishop of Paris, Cardinal Maurice FELTIN (1949-1966). <\/p>\n

At the time, in the 19th century, Nice had not yet become French and devotion to Saint Rita had not yet been introduced. It was Father Andrea Bianco (1900-1970), O.M.V., who, in 1935, introduced devotion to Saint Rita into the church by installing a beautiful statue of the Saint in one of the side chapels and inviting the faithful to get to know her and pray to her. Since then, the church, still named “Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation<\/em>“, has become known as the “Sainte Rita”<\/em> Church, Chapel or Shrine. Saint Rita, celebrated every year on May 22, is the patron saint of hopeless cases, “the saint of impossible causes”. <\/p>\n

Faced with this influx of faithful and afflicted people in Nice, the Oblates of the Virgin Mary of Nice thought it would be a good idea to found a chapel dedicated to Saint Rita in the Paris region, especially as the request had already been made by some of the faithful. So, in 1959, at the invitation of the archbishop of the time, they decided to establish a community in Fontenay-aux-Roses. They first built a student residence, the R\u00e9sidence Universitaire Lanteri (R.U.L.)<\/em>, named after their founder, Pio Bruno Lanteri, and then the chapel, dedicated to Rita<\/em>, in 1990. It was consecrated on November 21, 1992 by Mgr Fran\u00e7ois Favreau, then Bishop of Nanterre. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

At the same time in Nice, Father Paolo Calliari, O.M.V., founded the ” Revue Sainte-Rita<\/strong><\/em> ” in 1958, which was soon distributed throughout France. Even today, the Nice Oblate community continues to publish this monthly review. <\/p>\n

And so, since 1992, the Oblates of the Virgin Mary have had pastoral responsibility for the Chapelle Sainte-Rita in Fontenay-aux-Roses. In the spirit of their founder, Pio Bruno Lanteri, the Oblates welcome the faithful who come here to celebrate and deepen their Christian faith. They offer Eucharistic celebrations and adoration, confessions, retreats and spiritual guidance, training sessions and many other activities. <\/p>\n

In 2020, Mgr Roug\u00e9, Bishop of Nanterre, elevated Sainte-Rita chapel to sanctuary status, along with Notre-Dame de Boulogne-Billancourt, Saint-Vincent-de-Paul de Clichy-la-Garenne, Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-D\u00e9livrance de Neuilly-sur-Seine and Nanterre’s Cath\u00e9drale Sainte-Genevi\u00e8ve.<\/p>\n

So many people come to implore God’s help through the powerful intercession of Saint Rita of Cascia, the patron saint of “desperate causes”. Many also come to give thanks for a favor obtained. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
