A day of reflection for the health ministry of the diocese of Nanterre

On April 10, over 75 people involved in pastoral health care in the Diocese of Nanterre gathered for a day of reflection and training, in a spirit of communion, prayer and sharing of experiences.

The meeting, led by Father François Lapointe OMV, was part of a drive to support and deepen our mission to the sick, elderly and frail. It enabled participants – chaplains, volunteers and carers – to take a step back from their commitment and renew their outlook in the light of faith.

The day was structured around two conferences.

Rita de Cascia’s school

The first talk invited participants to listen to the spiritual testimony of Saint Rita of Cascia. A figure of patience, perseverance and abandonment to God in times of trial, she is a particularly enlightening model for all those who accompany human suffering. Through her life marked by hardship and fidelity, the speakers emphasized how gentleness, prayer and hope can transform the most difficult situations.

Christian hope in health ministry

The second conference explored the question of Christian hope at the heart of the mission to the sick. In a context where fragility, loneliness and anguish are often very present, pastoral workers must become credible witnesses of a hope that does not disappoint. This hope, rooted in Christ, does not deny suffering, but gives it meaning, opening up a horizon of life and resurrection.

Throughout the day, participants were able to share concrete experiences from the field, revealing the richness and diversity of their commitments. Participants were also able to express their expectations and challenges, particularly in the face of changing care structures and human realities.

In this way, the meeting helped to strengthen the bonds between those involved in pastoral health care and to renew their missionary impetus. It is a reminder of the extent to which being present among the most vulnerable is a privileged place for witnessing to the Gospel, where the compassion of the Church and the strength of Christian hope are both manifest.
